My May project for A Lovely Year Of Finishes is off to a late late start this time, but I'm determined to get it finished before the month of May has left us!
The first task for this project was to gather up the blocks and add a tiny strip of 'grout' around the outside edges. When this was finished I tossed the blocks up on the design wall in no particular order just so I could see them all together. I was feeling pretty excited at this point; aren't they pretty??
My original plan was to made a small 2 sided quilt, but as I spent several hours arranging and rearranging my blocks I decided I really need to make a larger one sided quilt instead. 60 x 70 seems like a good size for snugging under watching TV or taking a nice nap!
I marked out the size on the design wall and started arranging and rearranging again. Spent literally a whole day on this! Here's the final layout--
I sent this photo to my lovely DAUGHTER. Her reply? 'Looks good. But what's going in the white space between the blocks?' I had been planning all along to use Ash Grey Kona, but once I put these blocks on it.....well, it isn't bad, but it isn't very interesting either. Kinda meh.....
So, to my stash I went! And look what was there! 3 yards of Pomegranate Kona! I'd bought it for backing on another quilt, but hadn't bought enough so it was just patiently waiting for me to give it purpose. The photo is pretty lousy--taken on yet another dark and gloomy day. Hoping to have some sunshine for better photos soon. Poor Texas needs to dry back out a bit. You'll have to take my word for it--this is a bright bright pink!
And that's where I am today, ready to start filling in those spaces between the blocks!
