Yep, Still Alive and Kicking!

Hi There!  Been a long, long time, I know.
It has been a busy time of firsts, lasts, happiness, terror all served up with a side of confusion thrown in as we've transitioned through Hubby's military retirement and into civilian life.  Spent a month living with our Daughter and Son-In-Law. They have been really wonderful to us, so kind and helpful and endlessly patient. It is wonderful to live so close!  We can see each other as often as we like!  No more cross country drives!

Took us ages to find a place to live.  We finally signed a lease on March 1st, but our furniture didn't get here until the 9th.  Boxes are everywhere! Piled to almost to the ceiling in some places.  Unpacking is going pretty slowly.  Our house in AZ was closet heaven! More closets than I have ever seen in a house before.  This house we are renting is smaller, much older and there is barely a closet to be seen.  Trying to put things away feels like a jigsaw puzzle and is going to test my creativity and imagination.

Several people asked me for a photo of my stash altogether. I took this before the boxes were loaded on the truck. There are actually about three more of the square boxes.  Now, before you start thinking I could open my own quilt store, there is a lot more than fabric in those boxes!  All my notions, rulers, books, magazines, packages of new quilt batting and many-many-many plastic storage boxes are in there.

I haven't started unpacking my sewing room in the new house yet.  My goal is to have everything else in the house put away by the end of this weekend and then take next week to get the sewing room/computer room in shape.  Wanna come help?  This mess almost makes me want to run away!

The kitties traveled here so well!  Poor Murphy is such a chicken he traveled in his carrier where he felt secure.  Now Miss Daisy is made of sterner stuff and she wore a harness that connected to the seat belts in the back seat.  She spent most of the drive sitting right here, just behind the front seat console.
 Looks pretty content, doesn't she?

Poor Murphy's transition to being a Texan wasn't so smooth.  Two days after we got here he ended up having emergency surgery, but not to worry, he's doing just great now.  Back to his old sweet, purry self and getting into mischief.  Here he is a few days after surgery.  See the funny looking place on his leg?  That's where his fur was shaved for the IV.  His tummy is all shaved, too.  (Sorry for the zombie eyes--it's a phone photo)

We had some really goofy things happen with this move.  I'll tell you about them over the next few posts. Sewing will be happening again soon, and I am so looking forward to it.  I've really missed it! Right now I need to get back to unpacking!

Hope you are stitching!

Relocating at our age is tough, bound to be. And no closets are going to be such a trial. It will be struggle to make it all work but you will figure it out.

Welcome back and hope you will have lots of wonderful years in Texas.
(first comment really made me laught too, guess 'normal' people don't understand why we need so much fabric..)
Love the picture of Daisy; You were litterally "Driving Miss Daisy" ;-D
Sorry to hear Murphy wasn't amused with the move and had to have surgery. Give him a big smootch from me and my boys. Hope he will be his charming self soon.

Well, love to read more about the move and am curious about 'the goofy things' that happened....
'till next time than?!

Yeay - you're back!! No closets you say? Shelves and cubbies will work just fine. Just get it put away and get to stitching!

I love the idea of attaching a harness to the back seat belts. I've never considered that as a method of moving cats. When I moved my old cat she was so unhappy in the carrier that I put her on a harness and she curled up in my lap and was fine, but I was having to hold on to her lead the whole time "just in case". Next time, with my current cat I may consider your technique, it might work with this one.

Welcome back Staci, I'm so glad everyone made it safe. Poor Murphy, scary and scarier, while Daisy has a nice adventure.

Glad the move went well! Why oh why would anyone build houses with micro closets?! That was a deciding factor in a few houses we have lived in.

Glad you're in Texas. Best state to live in, though I might be a teensy bit biased.

Glad you are back (even if it was last month). I kept you in my favorites and thought I would try you again today. And here you are! Welcome to Texas. I myself lived in San Antonio for almost 2 years, but moved to Houston 3 years ago to be closer to family. Lots to do in San Antonio and I hear there are some nice quilt shops too!

I happened upon your blog when hopping from blog to blog to ...

I notice on your boxes the name Payne. My maiden name is Payne. Your 'about me' says you're an Army wife. My son was in the National Guard. Is that enough to make us kin? :-)
