Santa's Naughty List

This is a long-ish story, but I think you will enjoy it!!

Someone is on Santa's Naughty List.  Her name shot right up to the top!
Want to know who??
It was ......
DAISY!

See her there, looking all cute and innocent?
Well, don't be fooled!  It is all an act!!
Designed to lull you into a sense of false security!

DO YOU WANT TO KNOW THE NATURE
OF HER CRIME??

ARE YOU CERTAIN?

DAISY IS A CHRISTMAS TREE TIPPER!

Near as I can tell, she was up on the pony wall and jumped into the tree, which knocked it over, but thankfully, it went into the bookcases and didn't actually hit the floor.
And, since I am a blogger, I did what bloggers do, ran for the camera immediately!

Seems like an easy fix, right?  Just straighten the tree and all will be well.

Nope.

Not at all.  Try as we might, and we did for about a half hour,
HUSBAND and I couldn't get the tree to stand back up at all.
In fact, after every attempt, it gave into gravity a little more and got closer and closer to the floor.

At this point, I told HUSBAND to go on to work and I'd get the decorations off the tree, and we'd deal with it when he got home.  Well, HUSBAND got the bright idea that we could just put the tree into another tree stand; we actually had an old stand in the garage.  I'm still telling him to go back to work and I'll take the decorations down and we can try to move tree when he gets home.
No, HUSBAND decides we can just lift the tree out of the broken stand and plop it right down into the new stand.
I tell HUSBAND he has lost his mind.
He gives me a "LOOK", tells me to steady the top, and that he's going to lift a 7-1/2 foot tall, fully decorated Christmas tree in order to move it into another stand.
Yea, so now I'm giving him a "LOOK".  But, he tried.
Did it work?
Well, what do you think?
Again, for the 10 dozenth time, I say, I'll take the decorations off.
Nope, he still isn't going for it.  Now he goes and gets the computer cart.  I am baffled.
Here is the new plan:  We will pull apart the artificial tree into the three segments.  The top is supposed to sit on the computer cart and I'm supposed to hold the center, while HUSBAND moves the bottom section to the spare stand and then we reassemble the tree. Keep in mind, there are lights and bead garlands wrapped around this tree, which were not removed.  I surely wish there were photos of this, but since I was holding the center section of the tree, as well as trying to keep the top of it from falling off the computer cart, I had no free hands to take photos.  I am sure it was a picture of grace and beauty, and I'm sorry you missed out on seeing such a sight.
Did this crazy plan work?
Yes.  I know, SHOCKER!
No one was more stunned than I was.  The tree is, again, in one piece and standing upright.
Very crookedly, but upright.  (I keep wondering how long until it falls over completely)
It no longer looks very nice.  Unsurprisingly, many of branches were bent during this crazy operation, and all of the ornaments were dislodged, and many fell off.  The star for the top is all bent up.  I'll be trying to make it all look a bit better, but am not feeling too confident about that.  It looks Charlie Brown Tree-ish, without the charm, and I'm not sure there is enough love in the state of Arizona to bring it back!

Here is the Christmas Miracle part:  Many of the ornaments on this tree are OLD and GLASS and extremely fragile.  These ornaments were not removed prior to the chaos, and some how,
NONE WERE BROKEN!

This is the stand the tree was in originally.

Here is a shot looking down into it.
See the very bent bolts?
There were two more in there which were bent even worse, but HUSBAND had to remove them to get the tree out of the tree stand.  I don't know where he put them, because I couldn't find them anywhere, and I wanted to show them to you.  Oh, well, you get the idea.

So, now you know why Daisy is on Santa's Naughty List!  Right up at the top!!
That little stinker!  And HUSBAND AND I  Santa Claus got her good kitty presents, too!

And what was Miss Daisy Doodles doing while we were sorting out the tree?
She was locked up in my bedroom and completely upset about it.  She was screaming her little lungs out with her  Siamese-cat-ambulance-siren-wail!!
(Her momma was Siamese.  Her dad was rogue and a drifter. . . )

Here's to hoping nothing in your day falls over!  Nothing at all!!!

I keep telling people about our naughty cat that knocks the christmas tree over each and every time we put it up. Maybe it is a cat thing and they are supposed to do that, we just don't know it :)

I don't know whether to laugh or cry for you? I have a kitty that has done that as well and know the frustration, but seeing the humor in your post with the on goings between the husband and the tree are precious!

At least the important ornaments are safe and kitty hopefully has learned her lesson?

Awww, but that FACE. Surely she was just trying to straighten an ornament or two. LOL. Your story made me laugh - sounds like something that would happen around here. Here's hoping both kitties will have enough time to climb back onto the "nice" list and not the tree. I hope yoiur not up at this crazy hour fixing the tree again!

I spoke to my animals about this and they say Daisy should get a gift now. She's had it really hard with a tree in the house, you've done her an injustice and besides, no ornaments were broken. Now I'm not sure I'm putting a tree up. :)

Tis the season for tree treason! UGH...you poor thing...I guess i'm glad I don't have a cat to contend with! =)

I love how your husband kept at it...and I can see the "man" in him wanting to lift the tree in its entirety to a new stand. =) I do wish I could've been a fly on the wall during that entire endeavor! =)

Glad it's still standing and I hope you are able to get it beautified once again! =)

Hehe. Poor kitty - being blamed for gravitys toll on the Christmas tree :P

Hope your day is filled with non falling trees or ornaments!!!

Aww. Daisy looks just like our little Olivia. Who is also super adorable. But had decided she now likes to be on the kitchen counter. And while she's there, she looks for snacks.

I think cats just like trees. Our other cat Stewie used to climb into it and sit on the bottom few branches. Thankfully it was low enough not to know it over.

oooh, bad kitty. Wish I could have beenthere to see the great Christmas Tree Expedition of 2010. Sounds like something my husband would cook up. I'm sure you'll talk about it for years. Glad nothing was broken.

Too funny, but not;)
I collect cat ornaments, and I don't dare put the up anymore. I just put my small trees up and pick them up a lot, haha.

Oh, I laughed and laughed! But only because you had a good ending!

I remember several years of fallen trees when we had cats! Luckily the dogs don't seem to bother it - now the presents are a different story - lol! I'm glad none of your ornaments were broken! I loved the description of Miss Daisy's screaming - I could here it all the way in California!

LOL - What a story...but surely that little innocent thing didn't do ALL that damage...must have been an evil twin!

Glad you managed to fix the tree and did it without a single breakage!

After a few years of toppled trees or 'missing' ornaments, we moved the tree closer to the wall and tied it up. Now, kids and climbing cats can't topple the tree...safer for everyone. :) Hubbies are great problem solvers...they just 'gotta' or die trying :)

Thank you for the laugh this morning! I have many cat in the Christmas tree memories, and I know they are an enraging funny event!

My 20 year old cat spent 10 minutes chasing her tail yesterday! I think she is officially senile.

Definitely your fault for letting her watch Poseidon Adventure.

Oh Staci I have just read this out to hubby and we are both creased up with laughing...and don't you just hate it when the men are right!?! Our dogs have knock trees over in the past, but ours usually crash to the floor and break everything. I now have a smaller tree that stands on a table out of harms way!!

You husband is quite clever and your poor kitty is just doing her kitty thang. have a cup of what ever your drink and go sew some thing.

I hope in time you'll find the humor in it. Your description of it all was so funny, but I know I would have been frustrated with dealing with that myself. And what a visionary your husband is....and diligent! I can see my husband being exactly like that. haha!

Glad it's up now and really, I'm sure it is charming. In and of itself, Charlie Brown's tree wasn't. Remember he was laughed at and Linus tells the Christmas story which turns their focus on the real meaning and not on the commercialization of the season. And naturally, we all love the underdog, so this all led to our loving his little tree! So, if there ain't enough love in AZ to bring it back...I think there is enough love among your readers to bring back it's charm! :D

hahaha, you've gotta love cats, don't you? I have a fake tree up and have been worried about my 2 cats destroying it, but so far so good. They have a few attempts at eating the plastic branches though! You should check out Simon's Cat Santa Claws video http://www.simonscat.com/santaclaws.html - definitely speaks true if you own a cat! :)

oh.my.goodness. perhaps miss daisy needs to come for a visit to the house of bad cats, where we don't have a tree precisely for this reason! the first year i had bat and bandit, my roomie and i put up a tree, and every day when i came home from work i picked the tree up off the floor. after about the 5th day, i just left it on the floor for them to play with. last year husband and i decided to brave it with a fake tree and non-breakable ornaments, and it went passably well, but with the new kitty i don't think we're risking it this year!

Oh, Daisy, Daisy, Daisy. My image of her has been dashed. It was just a few months ago that she was featured on my blog on Cute Cat Thursday. Now, I may have to bump her back to Tuesdays.

This post reminds me of my youth when I would look at our Christmas tree only to see a pair of flourescent eyes staring back from deep within. Our cats always liked to climb the trunk. Marcia and Phoebe decorated our tree this year, so they have been quite careful with it. Perhaps Daisy needs to decorate next year. Hope she enjoys stringing the popcorn and cranberries!

Poor little Daisy didn't know what she was doing. She was just being a cat. I think she looks perfectly innocent. She should have never joined the Tree Tippers in the first place. She should have joined the Ornament Relocation Program like Squeaky, my daughter's cat. They will come rolling in here in the next couple of days, and I have my ornaments up high enough....I think.

What a funny story. I am sorry that you are having a problem with the cat and tree. I am waiting for our turn. Cats and Christmas trees don't mix.

Loved reading the story about your cat.....and husband! We have 2 kittens and they are terrors! My husband put up our tree and then put a cement block behind it on the base which I covered with a tree skirt as we knew they would try to climb the tree. The tree is up but they keep chewing off buttons and bells from my Santa and other decorations. All I can say is...cats are entertaining!

Hehe!!! That is such a funny story. :) Guess the rogue side of her family came through that time.
